Fitness is an integral element of the COMO Shambhala experience with recommendations made after an initial wellness consultation. We offer a range of options for all levels, including athletes.

The Estate also offers Guided Challenges for an hour or a day to test your endurance, pushing you through the pain barrier to experience new levels of adrenaline and achievement.

  • Biking, Walking & Trekking

    For those who wish to explore Bali’s lush, nature-rich countryside while getting some exercise we have devised a range of guided walking, biking and trekking routes to suit all interests and abilities.

    Price includes the services of an Estate guide and mineral water

  • Tennis

    Play tennis day or night on our all-weather tennis court with lights for night play. Complimentary social tennis with other guests may be organized and is sometimes scheduled weekly on the complimentary activities schedule. Equipment will be provided, please wear suitable attire and shoes.

  • Ayung River Rafting

    Your private raft and guide await beneath one of the Estate’s waterfalls to spirit you away past our Gardens down the Ayung River on this exclusive rafting adventure. The rivers around Ubud provide pleasant rafting conditions year round with enough rapids to make the ride exhilarating without ever becoming extreme. The Ayung River is generally class 2 with a few rapids reaching class 3 making it suitable for beginners. Rafting also provides an unrivalled way to appreciate the natural scenery, wildlife and exotic plants of Bali.

    We use the services of Sobek, Bali’s premier rafting company, who provide safety equipment and the services of experienced rafting guides.

  • Guided Challenge: Kintamani Freewheel

    You can avoid most of the uphill slog by getting dropped off on the crater rim of Mount Batur volcano to enjoy a delicious freewheel virtually all the way back to the Estate.

    This is a relaxed ride with ample time to take in the spectacular scenery and daily village life. The record for the descent is 70 minutes but most people average about three hours.

    Add on a stop in the village of Taro to visit the world famous Elephant Safari Park. Learn about these sacred Elephants and how they are being rescued and cared for by taking an exclusive guided tour. The visit to the Elephant Safari Park includes a guided museum tour, safari ride, and a buffet lunch.

  • Guided Challenge: COMO Shambhala Estate Biathlon

    This mini Biathlon takes us out of the confines of the gym and into nature. We trek for about two hours through rice paddies to Uma Ubud. where our bikes await.

    Climbing into the saddle we climb to Sebali village before plunging in and out of three jungle gorges on good roads heading back to the Estate.

  • Guided Challenge: Mount Batur Dawn Ascent

    This Guided Challenge is a three to five-hour trek to the top of Batur's 700m-high still active volcanic cone.

    As the day dawns you are rewarded with sunrise over the sweeping expanse of the crater lake and villages dotted around far below.

    Duration: 5 to 7 hours (back in time for breakfast at the Estate)

  • Guided Challenge: Mount Batur Ascent and Kintamani Freewheel

    This full day of adventure begins with a dawn ascent of Mount Batur for a spectacular sunrise over the caldera before heading back down to pick up our bikes.

    So begins a breezy one to three-hour freewheel down the volcano’s flanks through colourful villages, coffee and fruit plantations and finally winding down through rice terraces.

  • Guided Challenge: Kintamani Bike Challenge

    For tough, fearless bikers, we can arrange the ultimate Balinese biking challenge – an ascent to Kintamani, high on the crater rim of Mt. Batur (1717m).

    This is followed by a well-earned downhill run all the way back to the Estate through a chain of traditional villages dotted with craft studios and cafes.

  • Guided Challenge: Rock Climbing
    Connect more deeply with your body, breath, and mind by practicing a blend of mindfulness and movement. The art of Rock Climbing is an embodiment of the harmony that exists between strength/finesse, physical/mental, people/nature, and individual/whole. Learn how to expand your gifts of concentration and awareness while strengthening your coordination and flexibility. Our trained guides will teach proper climbing and belaying techniques in a “top-rope” climbing environment at our outdoor climbing area.

  • Guided Challenge: Penulisan Experience
    Just 3km from the village of Kintamani awaits the highest situated temple in all of Bali. Spectacular 360 degree views are offered at this ancient and sacred site, high atop Penulisan Mountain 1745m. The day begins with experiencing the sunrise over Mt. Batur, Mt. Abang, and the majestic Mt. Agung. Participate in the temple ceremony and then transform into a downhill mountain biker. Savor the descent through mountain switchbacks lined with breathtaking views of the Balinese countryside.

  • Guided Challenge: Mount Abang Ascent
    Far from the beaten path, Mt Abang is the third highest peak (2,151 m) in Bali and towers over Mt. Batur. This less traveled mountain provides amazing vistas of Mt. Batur in a pristine setting. You will blend your physical stamina with your determination as you ascend the jungle trail and pay homage at three holy temples along the path. This moderate-to-strenuous climb is well suited for any trekking enthusiast ready for a challenge far from the maddening crowds.

    The trip includes transportation, morning sport drink, packaged brunch, local mountain guide, and Estate guide.
